Share the glow and warmth with your loved ones this winter because nothing says happy holidays like a homemade candle!

Winter is the season for giving, and what better way to spread warmth and joy than with homemade candles? Let’s discover the art of crafting your candles for delightful holiday presents. Whether new to the candle-making world or a seasoned DIY enthusiast, this simple and festive candle-making project is easy to follow and bound to make your gifts shine bright.

Materials:

  • Wax: I recommend natural waxes like soy wax or beeswax.
  • Wicks: Choose natural wicks and buy more than the number of candles you are making in case you want to use multiple wicks for larger containers.
  • Essential oils: Choose your favourite scent or use a holiday scent like peppermint, cinnamon, or pine for a holiday-themed candle.
(note: we like to shop for our essential oils at Noblessence Alchimiste en herbe, The Botanical Lab, to name a few! Support your local businesses!)
  • Heat-proof containers: I recommend thrifting glass, metal, or ceramic containers from your local thrift stores to make your candles even more unique.
  • Pot: I recommend using one that you can dedicate for crafts because it may not be suitable to use for cooking after this project.
  • Popsicle sticks and tape: To keep wicks upright in the cooling process.

Tip: Amazon has candle-making kits that include many of these materials. I suggest checking the ingredients of the packs before buying to ensure the wicks are natural and the wax is non-toxic.

How to make your candle at home:

  1. Safely melt your chosen wax using over low-medium heat. Stir constantly using a wooden spoon. If wax takes more than a few minutes to melt, turn up the temperature slightly, but be careful not to burn your wax.
  2. Once the wax is melted, add your essential oils. Depending on the strength of the scent desired and the strength of your essential oils, add between 80-100 drops.
  3. Anchor your wicks to the bottom of the jar using a small dab of wax. Place a popsicle stick on top of the jar and tape the wicks to the popsicle sticks.
  4. Carefully pour the wax into each jar and let sit for one hour.
  5. Cut wicks to the desired length. Your gift are now ready to be wrapped and given to your loved ones!
  6. If you have any leftover wax, let it harden and then dispose of it. Do not dump it down the drain because this could cause major plumbing issues.

This holiday season, let the glow of your gifts illuminate the faces of your loved ones. Putting your time into each handmade creation creates a unique and heartful gift that cannot be bought in a store. So, light up the holidays with the warmth and love that only a homemade gift can bring. Happy crafting!
