The Best 4 Step Natural Flower Bracelet Activity to Do with Your Child

Let’s make some beautiful flower bracelets together! These bracelets are easy, require few materials, are fun, and will have your child entertained outside for a while! You can even add ESL practice to this activity to make it more educational and interactive! So, let’s get started on this amazing craft!

Now that the weather is warming up and the flowers are sprouting, I am sure you and your child are excited to spend more time outside. Making these  bracelets are an easy way to spend more interactive time outside that will keep your child entertained and active.

This plant bracelet activity also has lots of opportunities for your child to practice English vocabulary hands-on.

So, let’s dive into how we make these simple yet beautiful plant or flower bracelets!

What you will need:

  1. Scissors (preferably adult sized and children sized to enjoy the activity together)
  2. Clear tape (clear packing tape works best)
  3. Access to wildflowers, grass, and other plants outside

Step 1:

Cut a piece of clear tape a little bit larger than the width of your child’s wrist. Have your child repeat the process on you as well so they can get a true feeling on how to make the bracelet!

Step 2:

Make a bracelet by wrapping the smooth side on your child’s arm with the sticky side out. Attach the ends, and your bracelet base is finished. Remember to let your child repeat the process for you! Words than can be learned in ESL during these steps include: tape, sticky,  smooth and clear!

Step 3:

Once the bracelet is on, pick plants, grass, and flowers outside with your child. Try and pick ones that are small enough to fit on the bracelet and then stick them on the tape. During this phase, spread out the learning opportunities! Instead of picking the flowers in a few minutes, you can take your time in explaining the colors, the shapes, the names of the plants. You can also get to know which ones your child likes the best! Every moment is a great bonding experience!

Step 4:

Enjoy the fun of picking flowers and creating a beautiful bracelet! You can recreate this process many times, given you have access to different plants & flowers. Customize your flower bracelet by adding different patterns & colors, changing the density & more! If you are really motivated, you can even try making a flower necklace, following the same steps!

A reminder on how to add ESL practice to this activity:

  1. Colours

Have your child practice saying the colors of each object they pick in English as they put them on their bracelets. Nature is filled with different hues and shades, you can spend the whole day going over them together!

  1. Numbers

Have your child count how many plants they have on their bracelet in English. You can also have your child count how many flowers they have, how many pieces of grass, red flowers, green plants, etc. In the final steps of your bracelet making, numbers can be expressed in the patterns you  make, the specific flora you have, or even the amount of time it took to find the right plants!

  1. Vocabulary

Practice vocabulary words that are involved in this activity, such as objects, plants and verbs. Some vocabulary words are bracelet, wrist, plants, flowers, grass, leaves, pick, small, medium, large, stick, bracelet, wildflowers, and beautiful. Plant vocabulary is virtually endless when in the mind of a young child!

Make sure to have lots of fun! It makes the utmost difference for your children when you bond with them!
